A view from a local train window, knitted in dots and borders

Woman wearing the charcoal window stole

Every stole by nitorito is inspired by the landscapes and rich nature of Yonezawa, a snowy town in Yamagata, northern Japan. window captures the view from a rural train: clouds and mountains drifting by, a lone house, and rice fields that stretch on and on — all drawn in dots and borders.

Why you'll love it

  • A landscape you can wear — from afar the dots and lines read as a soft pattern; up close they become a tiny scene. The view changes with how you wrap it.
  • Surprisingly soft and light — generous wool, circular-knitted, so it rests comfortably around your neck without weighing you down.
  • Just the right size — 65 × 160 cm (25.6 × 63 in): wrap it as a scarf, or drape it over your shoulders as a shawl.
  • Built to last — milled (lightly felted) to resist pilling.
  • Made in Yonezawa — from yarn planning to textile design and production, all in one town.

Dots and borders that tell a story

Navy window stole laid flat

Gently swaying on a local train, you watch the scenery roll past: drifting clouds and mountains, a solitary house, fields without end. nitorito expresses that view from the train window with dots and borders.

Close-up of the train-window pattern in dots and borders

A landscape drawn in dots and lines looks like a soft pattern from a distance, and like a small scene up close. Part of the fun is how the view changes depending on how you wear it.

Circular knitting makes it possible to create distinctive designs and patterns that other knitting methods can't. That free, one-of-a-kind design is the charm of nitorito's stoles.

Softer and lighter than you'd imagine

Charcoal window stole worn over the shoulders

nitorito pays close attention to feel and weight. Thanks to circular knitting and a generous amount of wool, the stole is pleasantly soft and light enough to wear around your neck all day without tiring. In early autumn it is just the right thickness to wear over your shoulders, helping you adjust to changing temperatures.

Charcoal window stole worn as a wrap

At 65 × 160 cm, it is neither too big nor too small — wrap it quickly around your neck or drape it over your shoulders, from early autumn through early spring. It also looks lovely as a throw on a sofa or bed.

Knit and weave, made in Yonezawa

nitorito label on the stole

The name nitorito comes from the Japanese for "knit and weave" — nitto to ori to — because the company excels at both. Born in Yonezawa to share the charm of a town that lives alongside nature, nitorito expresses Yonezawa through its designs and uses only fibers of natural origin, such as wool and cotton. The fabric is milled to resist pilling and can be dry-cleaned, so it is made to be used for many years.
