A handcrafted wooden reversi set that doubles as interior décor

Wooden reversi board with the two piece cases on either side

The satisfying click of a piece and the solid weight of real wood. This reversi set (also known as Othello) is handmade by craftsmen at Sasaki Kogei in Asahikawa, Hokkaido — a board so beautiful you will want to leave it out in the living room.

Why you'll love it

  • Two natural woods instead of black and white — each piece is walnut on one side and Hokkaido birch on the other, so the colors never wear off.
  • Pieces stay in place — every square has a carved round hollow that centers the piece.
  • Easy to care for — a urethane finish resists stains and scratches; simply wipe clean.
  • Made to be displayed — a solid wood frame with rounded corners suits modern interiors.

Two-tone pieces of walnut and Hokkaido birch

Two-tone pieces of walnut and Hokkaido birch on the board

Instead of black and white, the pieces are made by precisely joining two different natural woods: deep, rich walnut and light, smooth Hokkaido birch. Because the color comes from the wood itself rather than paint, it will not chip or fade with use. Every flip shows off a smooth grain and a change of expression.

A carved board where every piece settles neatly

Round hollows carved into each square of the reversi board

Each square of the board has been precisely carved with a shallow round hollow. Pieces slide naturally into the center and do not shift during play. The quiet sound of wood on wood and the warmth in your hand make every game feel special.

A urethane finish that is easy to care for

The surface has a urethane coating that keeps the natural look and feel of the wood while resisting stains and scratches. Fingerprints and dirt wipe away easily, so the set stays beautiful for years.

A refined piece for your home

With its solid wood frame, rounded corners and clean form, the set looks at home in a living room or study even when no one is playing. The wood develops a deeper character the more it is used.

A gift loved across generations

Because the rules are simple, reversi can be enjoyed together by small children and grandparents alike. It makes a special gift for family time at home, a housewarming, a wedding or a birthday.

About Sasaki Kogei

Each piece is carefully finished by hand. "We live with nature. Our work lies between what human hands create and what nature creates. However much we refine our ideas and skills, every tree has its own quirks and expressions, and every finished piece is different." Under the motto "From Sasaki Kogei of Asahikawa to SASAKI of the world," the studio shares the appeal of Hokkaido craftsmanship in Japan and abroad.

Care

  • Avoid leaving it in direct sunlight or in very dry or humid places (such as directly in the airflow of an air conditioner), which can cause warping or cracking.
  • For everyday care, wipe off dust with a soft, dry cloth. If it gets dirty, wipe with a well-wrung damp cloth, then dry thoroughly.
