The Misconception: "Lacquerware is Difficult to Use"
"Lacquer causes skin rashes." "It’s too delicate and only for special occasions." Many people hold these impressions, but they are actually major misconceptions.
-
Completely Safe: Finished lacquerware available for sale will not cause rashes.
-
Easy Care: Simply wash it with a standard sponge and mild dish soap.
-
Best Maintenance: Using it every day is actually the best way to keep it in top condition.
Lacquer possesses natural antibacterial properties and excellent heat retention. Since it is crafted entirely from natural materials, it is also gentle on the environment.

Designed for Casual, Everyday Use
These bowls feature the unique "Sen-suji" technique, developed exclusively by Wajima Kirimoto.
The process begins with "Nunokise"—reinforcing the wooden base with cloth—followed by an undercoating. Then, a mixture of lacquer and "Wajima Jinoko" (a special powdered diatomaceous earth from Wajima) is applied with a specialized brush, followed by multiple layers of lacquer.

This meticulous process:
-
Increases surface hardness.
-
Creates a highly scratch-resistant finish.
You can use metal spoons without worry, making it perfect for enjoying curry or pasta with ease.
With over 200 years of history in Wajima, Wajima Kirimoto has a deep, sincere relationship with wood and lacquer. This technique breathes new life into tradition, where the beautiful "suji" (striated) patterns showcase true craftsmanship—a masterpiece blending utility and beauty.

"Develop Your Bowl" – Lustre that Grows with Use
Lacquerware is a "living" craft. While it starts with a chic, matte tone, it gradually becomes brighter and more vivid with continued use.
Bowls made with the Sen-suji technique are known for showing more dramatic color changes compared to other methods. Your bowl will evolve alongside you, becoming a one-of-a-kind piece reflecting the time you've spent together.

Even if it gets damaged, there is no need to worry. Through professional repair and re-lacquering, these pieces can be passed down through generations. As our artisans say: "How wonderful it is when a grandmother’s bowl is inherited by her grandchild." This sentiment truly captures the soul of lacquerware.
"Yama-wan": The Versatile Bowl for Any Cuisine

Cereal in the morning, salad for lunch, and miso soup for dinner—the "Yama-wan" features a modern design that complements any dish, whether Japanese, Western, or Chinese.
Created by the Kirimoto family, who have been dedicated to Wajima-nuri for over two centuries, this lacquerware is designed to fit seamlessly into modern lifestyles. Its durable construction resists scratches even from metal spoons, making it a reliable companion for your daily table.
"Hira-wan": A Shallow Shape for Everyday Comfort

With its shallow, gently spreading silhouette, the "Hira-wan" is perfectly shaped for rice, simmered dishes, or salads, making every meal look beautiful.
Part of the Kirimoto family's legacy of 200+ years of craftsmanship, this bowl is built for peace of mind. Thanks to their original technique, it is tough enough for daily use. As the colors deepen and the texture evolves over time, this is truly a "growing bowl" to be cherished across generations.
