A clock that shows off the grain of bamboo

TEORI laminated bamboo wall clock

The face of this wall clock is set at a gentle tilt towards the room, so the bamboo grain and the time are easy to see from the sofa. The thin rim is beautifully finished, and the outer edge is painted black so the clock suits any wall. A lovely gift for a new home.

The strength of the bamboo ruler

Do you remember the bamboo rulers used at school? Bamboo was chosen because even when thin, it bends without breaking, so a ruler could last all the way through school. TEORI uses this same springy strength to bend thin laminated bamboo into the shape of this clock.

Why laminated bamboo?

Bamboo is remarkably strong. It resists bending and compression, hardly warps after it is worked, and is naturally antibacterial and deodorising, which is why it is used for things like library shelving. On its own, though, a bamboo cane can only be made into a limited range of things. TEORI takes the time to turn bamboo into laminated bamboo: strips are planed, dried and glued into solid blocks that can be shaped into almost anything. The end grain of many strips joined together creates a natural pattern that is a design in itself. Bamboo also grows back without replanting and is ready to use in three to five years, making it a truly sustainable material.
